About us

Hi, I’m Dave Meyer. I work predominantly as a technical consultant to CEDIA, the member-based association representing smart home and AV integrators and manufacturers/distributors globally. My role is in technology and standards, being immersed in recommended practices, white papers, and training. It’s essentially a support role to help integrators ensure the best end user experiences by making the technologies they integrate be the best expression of what the various developers and manufacturers intended. Knowledge is a powerful tool.

I’m constantly learning in my daily research quest. I live by the adage set by my friend and colleague Dave Pedigo: “be a lifelong learner.” I established this blog as a place to independently* share some snippets of what I’ve learned along the way, in bite-sized pieces. It’s intended to fill some small gaps to augment broader learning. Much of the content is simply stuff I find fascinating, including historical info, foundations, and observations. After all, a lot of what we deal with today is a result of legacy technologies and gradual evolutions. Understanding the past helps give context to the present.

Thanks for visiting. I hope you find it helpful!

Cheers,

Dave

Background

Dave started working with imaging capture in 1994 with consumer and pro photographic and video sales, moving into AV and home cinema in 1997, traversing the digital transformation of both video and surround sound. After managing a specialist home cinema store for several years in the suburbs of Melbourne, Australia, he moved into manufacturing and distribution as founder of Kordz in 2003. Dave was an early signatory to the HDMI Adopter agreement in 2005 (back with version 1.2), and starting working with HDBaseT in 2009, the year before its official launch. Kordz grew to international distribution and acclaim, during which time Dave became a CEDIA volunteer, writing and teaching his first class about HDMI at CEDIA Expo in 2007. He hasn’t missed a year since, having led classes in three continents as a subject matter expert in video and connectivity at events including Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) and CEDIA Tech Summits. Dave departed Kordz in 2016 to become a full-time consultant to CEDIA, enabling a much larger focus on his passion for standards, research, and education.

Dave is a professional member of the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and CEDIA. He holds CEDIA CIT and IST certifications, and is an Imaging Science Foundation (ISF) contributor and instructor. He was awarded the “Golden Paul” most influential person in the industry by Connected Home magazine in Australia in 2019, and has had many published articles in industry media across Asia Pacific, North America, and the UK.
